What Is The Meaning of The Year of The Ox?

The celebration of Chinese New Year is quite an event. It is so important that people in China get a whole week as a public holiday. It is a time for families to come together and celebrate. This year, the celebration of what is also known as Lunar New Year or Spring Festival falls on February 12. Chinese have twelve zodiac signs that are represented by twelve different animals, each representing something different. This year is the Year of the Ox, which symbolizes power. The Year of the Ox is also considered to be a hopeful year, so here’s hoping it will be better than 2020!

Chinese New Year Traditions

There are a few main traditions to celebrating the Chinese New Year. First is putting up decorations. The main color of these decorations is red, as it symbolizes prosperity. Streets are adorned with red lanterns, which is usually done a month prior to the celebration. Families, however, only decorate their homes on the eve of the New Year. A second very important tradition is for families to come together for a celebratory dinner. Recently it has become more popular to also go out to eat. If that is your plan, you can add an environmentally friendly touch to the celebration by bringing your own cutlery set! This bamboo set has everything you could possibly need, a spoon, a knife, chopsticks and even a straw. If you are staying in and celebrating with your family, you could bring your own set of plaid towels to avoid using paper napkins. If your family is large, you may want to consider getting a Hot Water Boiler that will save time when making hot drinks for everyone. There are seven different settings to ensure that whatever beverage you are making will be made at the perfect temperature.

Another major tradition is the firework display. It is said that billions of fireworks illuminate the skies of China on that night – more than anywhere in the world at one time! While this is mostly celebrated in China, that does not mean you can’t celebrate the beginning of the Year of the Ox where you are! Aside from fireworks, the Chinese also light firecrackers on New Year’s Eve. They believe that the loud noise scares away evil spirits. It is a very old tradition that predates firecrackers themselves. If you don’t have an opportunity to enjoy a firework display, you can still create a festive atmosphere by lighting some firecrackers.

New Year Gift Exchange

Last but not least, Chinese New Year is a time when people exchange gifts.
